[NSSC-ANNOUNCE: 10]: New Coach for Swim Team

Post date: Jun 3, 2012 6:05:45 PM

Hello North Springfield,

I'm happy to say that summer is just around the corner and with it comes another fun swim season. For those of you who do not know me, my name is Betsy Kruse and I, along with Joe Rolen and Nathan Seeto, will be coaching the Dolphins for the 2012 season. I have been a part of the coaching staff for the past two summers and this will be my tenth year as a swimmer. Nathan Seeto has swam for NS in the past and coached as well and Joe Rolen will be joining us from Wakefield Chapel where he has also swam and coached.

This season we are in division 17 where we will be competing against Bren Mar- Edsall Park, Virginia Hills, Pinewood Lake, Springfield, and Broyhill Crest. It takes a lot of volunteer work for a swim meet to take place, this year we are fortunate enough to be hosting three home meets (see meet schedule below), so please let *Grace Neary (the team rep) know how you can help out in any way as there are many roles that need to be filled. One of the greatest strengths that all of the coaches have is our enthusiasm and love of swimming. While we may be a relatively young staff, I believe that this will only work to our advantage, as it is one of my main goals to build the swim team by recruiting new athletes and to focus on instilling a passion for the sport in all of the members of the team. Word of mouth is essential in order for the swim program to grow, and I would really appreciate it if all of the parents and swimmers could try to inform any pool members about the swim team who are not currently involved.

**Another point I would like to stress is that no matter what your age or experience level it is never too late to join the team. We will work with any new swimmers to help develop their skills and I'm confident that anyone who is willing can improve.

I'm determined to make this season as fun as possible, while still focusing on improving the skills of each swimmer. I will try to give each swimmer individual attention during practice, but I may not be able to fix or see every detail of their strokes. If there is something that a swimmer would like me to work with them on, then please let me know and I will try to highlight it during practice or even after for some one on one instruction.

The practice schedule is below, but I am more than willing to add in evening practices if this would be easier for some swimmers. I'm also requesting that swimmers let me know when they will not be able to attend practice, this way swimmers will not just skip and it also eliminate some of the stress of trying to organize meet sheets. During practice I expect all swimmers to to listen and cooperate. I'm hoping to establish a close relationship with everyone. I have many plans to incorporate fun competition during practice that I am hoping will motivate swimmers to want to improve. Please make sure all swimmers have caps and swim goggles as this will help improve swim habits.

Overall, I'm hoping for everyone to have fun and by the end of the season to be already looking forward to next summer.

Sincerely,

Betsy Kruse
